Found a new gem in the heart of London today! I accidentally bumped into an authentic Japanese home-style cafe in Baker Street, just couple streets across the Baker Street tube station. It’s hard to say what made me stop by and walk into the cafe: this tiny little place with wooden doors, couple coffee tables and seats outside turned to be one of those small cosy places where you can sit down for a nice cup of Japanese tea and have your peace.
“Cha no Ma” (meaning “tea space”) was just a room that looked like a smaller version of a living room: decorated with flower plants, japanese-style sofa pillows, clean and peaceful atmosphere made the food seem incredibly tempting. Oh and it was delicious! The menu consisted of Japanese food only (there are pictures of examples too!) and a surprisingly huge variety of Japanese tea. Broccoli sesame salad, chicken teryaki, white rice and cup of green tea summed up £7.50 (eating in). Let me tell you what - it’s worth every penny! there’s no way you could compare all that with sandwiches at Starbucks across the street. It even killed my hungover too!
Surprisingly enough, there weren’t many people coming over, there was no queue either! The staff was very friendly too, but unfortunately I wasn’t allowed to take any pictures inside. I finished my visit by signing and leaving a note in a little red note book which collects wishes and thoughts from visitors to show support for people in damaged areas of Japan after the quake-tsunami. Healthy food + support = good karma for you!
Prices: £1.50 - £9.50. Atmosphere: 10/10.
