Recommended by Mary Portas, London’s leading retail marketing consultant, I decided to pay a visit to one of the local charity shops in the heart of the city last month. This tiny Octavia Foundation charity shop on Brompton Road in South Kensington is known for donations from designers and wealthy locals. I was, however, very much surprised by its looks - the tiny little non-outstanding shop (or more like a room) looked a lot like a granny’s basement stuffed with old pairs of shoes, belts, vintage blazers, toys, old pillows and books. Fortunately, I did find a few designer labels - Chanel handbag, Dolce & Gabbana vest and Ralph Lauren fur coat - each £60-80 were safely put on a shelf behind a safety glass door. It took me two seconds to realize I was wrong to judge this charity shop by the looks - it’s true a hidden gem in the heart of London if you’re looking for something extra ordinary.
