Don’t know what to do this weekend? I’ll give you five things to do that do not include Chinese New Year Festival, unless you’re a Chinese in London and want to join your beloved cousins for another Chinese meal in ChinaTown. But that’s up to you, really.
1. Couples who like to do more than just clubbing and dining in Soho on the weekends, will love this unusual but exciting event. “The Blitz Party” brings fun into 1940s party this Saturday at Shoreditch Studios. Find your best home-front utility clothing and hit the 40s glam. Swing the whole night with Top Shelf Jazz and DJs spinning classics. There will be newsreels, wartime films and even an outdoor hog roast too!
2. Sam Riley (“Control” 2007) fans shall head to the cinema this Friday to see “Brighton Rock” in Leicester Square. Bold and intelligent, this film will take you to the 1960s youth revolution. There’s lots of different opinions on this film, but you won’t be able to tell what it’s like unless you go and watch it yourself. Let Riley take the lead.
3. Coffee lovers will love Charles Dicken’s Coffee House in Covent Garden. The cafe’s on the ground floor of the building that was the office of “All The Year Round”, the popular magazine by Dickens, in 1859-1870. It’s a gem! Grab your favourite book and cuppa coffee, enjoy it all with passion!
4. “Images of The Beat Generation” takes place at National Theatre until March 20. This exhibition includes photographs of radical American writers and artists who rose to prominence during the 1950s. This is a piece of American pie for Jack Kerouac and William Borroughs readers.
5. Unless you’re spending this weekend at home with a broken ankle like me, you should get out of the house and take the last chance to skate on an ice rink! It’s a nice place to take your partner on a night out in central, too. 720-metre-square ice rink surrounded by vertiginous towers will become one of your favourites. Canary Wharf Ice Rink will be open until Sunday February 20.
